Ford put out a press release on the new V6 their stuffing into the 2011 Mustang. The Mustang community has been waiting for this news for some time, as it was sneaked out by Ford some time ago. Ford even debuted the engine by itself at a Ford “town hall” meeting in Detroit. It’s quite an engine really. I might go so far as to say that it could be historical.
A V6 powerplant that puts out 305 horsepower is pretty amazing. The old Mustang V6, which was a 4.0 liter put out far less at the crank.
Of course, Ford is crowing about these numbers because the V6 camaro from Chevy has 300 HP exactly. Now, that’s like having an amplifier that goes to 11 and being “that much louder”, but it’s something that Ford can use to help sales of the Mustang, then go for it. This new V6 from Ford is an extremely high revving beast, with a redline at 7,000 RPM. The torque is supposed to rival that of a V8 whether down low or up high on the tach. All this and upwards of 30 Miles per Gallon? Sweet!
Ford also let slip that there will be a performance package for the V6 in August of 2011 that will incorporate performance pieces from the Mustang GT including suspension enhancements and bigger brakes. Of course that V6 package will be badged accordingly as well.
If you are interested in the press release, you can read all about it at here with some more nifty pictures included:

Me? I hope to see the V6 Mustang at the L.A. Autoshow this weekend (if it’s been unleashedcovered yet). I’ll be sure to post real pictures if I make it there and fill you in on where you can find them plus any other details I’m able to wean from Ford marketing types.
