Yet another example of “worst kept internet secrets”, Ford announced yesterday that the 5.0 Liter 2011 Ford Mustang GT will be the official pace car of this year’s Daytona 500 on February 14th. This news was released by Barrett-Jackson auctions a couple of weeks ago

“From hot rods to racing-tuned torque monsters, and everything in between, our goal is to bring together some amazing vehicles and create a spectacular event,” said Mike Spagnola, chairman of the SEMA Show ‘N Shine car show. “We’re encouraging all enthusiasts to register their vehicles. There will also be food, live music and plenty of activities for the kids, so it will be a great family affair. We’d really like this enthusiast car show to become the showcase event of the summer and grow each year so we can raise more money for two deserving children’s charities.”

Grand Marshall Chip FooseChip Foose, award-winning automotive designer and fabricator, and host of TLC’s “Overhaulin’” is Grand Marshall of the show. All vehicle registrants will receive a free T-shirt designed and autographed by Foose. Trophies will be awarded for Best Engine, Best Interior, Best in Show and People’s Choice. The winner of the People’s Choice Award will have an opportunity to attend the trade-only SEMA Show in November, with free hotel accommodations in Las Vegas. (more…)

I found a really exciting prototype show car while traipsing around SEMA in Las Vegas today. Seems that Galpin Auto Sports of Van Nuys took a Ford Mustang GT convertible and went COMPLETELY NUTS on it. Sure, it started out as a 2008 Mustang GT, but it is completely unrecognizable now! Hand made composite body, voice command controled, even DUAL retractible steering wheels (left and right side drive, thanks to drive-by-wire technology)!!!

In the deep, 3 layer, candy purple paint, it looks like something the Joker might drive… if he could handle the 1000 horsepower twin supercharged power!

Of course, it sits so low to ground here, at a height that it would be impractical on most any road or track, but thanks to air ride technologies’ suspension system, the computer constantly gauges the road for the optimum ride height and firmness of the ride itself. and still, it “cuts” quite a shape… and those headlights!

Ashley Force’s Mustang Funny Car may have been the best dragster going into Sunday’s NHRA race in Joliet, Ill., but a broken belt in the semifinal round ended her day early, highlighting a busy Ford Racing weekend.

Force qualified third and had defeated her teammate Robert Hight in the first round and Gary Scelzi in the second round on her way to the semifinal against Tony Pedregon. In the semifinal run, Force jumped out to an early lead before her car suffered a dropped cylinder and broken supercharger drive belt, causing her to lose enough power to end her day earlier than she hoped. SALT LAKE CITY, Utah (March 5, 2008) – The inaugural Ford Mustang Challenge for the Miller Cup racing series held its first official event this past weekend with 19 entrants taking delivery of their new Mustang FR500S race cars in a special program at Miller Motorsports Park.

Participants also had the opportunity to attend the Ford Racing High Performance Driving School, meet series officials, receive technical information from Ford Racing engineers and shake down their new race cars for the first time during the open track sessions on both Saturday and Sunday.

“The Mustang was a dominant showroom-based race car during the glory days of American road racing in the mid-1960’s and ‘70’s and this car certainly continues that proud tradition,” said Jamie Allison, manager of the Ford Performance Group.
